Kinesio Tape is a therapeutic procedure using special tape invented by Japanese Chiropractor Dr. Kenzo Kase, D.C. Jonas Chiropractic offers Kinesio Tape to help support your Chiropractic Adjustment by supporting muscles and joints while removing congestion (swelling) from areas of inflammation. It gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It is also used for Preventive Maintenance, Edema, and Pain Management. Kinseo Tape is a rehabilitative, therapeutic modality. Our professionals are trained in the use of this new and effective taping which aids in reducing swelling, pain and decrease muscle spasm.
We now offer Kinesiotaping which aids in reducing swelling, pain and decreasing muscle spasm. A 2007 study by the Department of Rehabilitation and the University of Warsaw found that muscle strength increased 54% after 24 hours of use. A recent study published in the Journal of Sports Physical Therapy in July 2008 by the US ARMY found Kineotaping helped increases shoulder range of motion in subjects with rotator cuff tendonitis. Most individuals became aware of its importance at the Olympic games, on the shoulders of Kerry Walsh, or by watching Lance Armstrong’s winning Tour de France team. Many amateur and professional skaters and hockey players have found great benefits from its use. The tape is used for pain, weakness and swelling anywhere from the spine to the foot.
Four Major Features of Kinesio Taping:
Kinesiotape:
You may have noticed Kinesio Tape on Olympic Gold Medalist Kerri Walsh’s shoulder or read about Kinesio Tape in Lance Armstrong’s, Every Second Counts, where he refers to Kinesio Tape as “Something better than any laser, wrap or electric massager…Special tape that came from Japan and seemed to have special powers. Every morning before the stage, they would tape us up, different parts of our bodies…. George’s back, Chechu’s knees. Sometimes we’d be so wrapped up in hot-pink tape that we’d look like dolls, a bunch of broken dolls. But the next day the pain disappeared–it was gone.”
How Does Kinesio Tape Work?
Conventional athletic tape is designed to restrict the movementt of affected muscles and joints. For this purpose, several layers of tape must be rolled on the affected areas, applying significant pressure and resulting in the obstructuion of the flow of bodily fluids. That is why athletic tape is usually applied before an activity and removed soon there after. On the other hand, Kinesio Taping allows free range of motion in order to allow the body’s own muscular system to heal itself biomechanically. The tape itself is very thin and the wave like glue pattern of the tape allows the skin to virtually be lifted from the affected area and gently massages the area during movement allowing for lymph and circulation improvement along with joint stability
