Chiropractic

Chiropractic and spinal manipulation is the foundation for musculoskeletal injuries. Chiropractic is most commonly associated with neck, mid back and lower back pain, but it is so much more than that. Chiropractic is used to help restore normal function to the nervous system. The nervous system is comprised of two different systems, the central nervous system, which is the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system, which are all nerves that branch off of the spinal cord. These nerves go to certain areas of your body like your skin, hands, feet, heart, lungs, and major organs.. The brain controls all the nerves and function. The nerves give us the feeling of touch, taste, smell, and control all the organs in our bodies. For instance how does the heart know to beat faster when you are running? The brain tells the nerve which rely to the heart to speed up and provide more blood to the body.  Sometimes dysfunction can occur and the communication becomes obstructed between the spinal cord and these nerves.  This is when there is a misalignment in one of the spinal bones putting pressure onto the nerve. In chiropractic terms we call this a subluxation. Common examples of this include sciatica, or shooting pain from the neck down into the hands. This is where Chiropractic comes in. With a simple manipulation or spinal adjustment the obstruction can be removed and the pressure on that nerve will be removed and normal function can be restored. The line of communication now between the brain, spinal cord and the associated path of that nerve can continue without interference. We provide diversified manipulation but also non-force manipulation (no cracking) activator technique. These techniques will help reduce spinal and extremity misalignments in the body and restore normal function to the nerves and nervous system.

Leander Method
A decompression technique excellent for lower back conditions.

Activator
A gentle chiropractic technique known for its “low force” – excellent for children and those whose spines require a different approach.

Injury Prehabilitation/Rehabilitation
Our certified strength and conditioning specialist combines our extensive knowledge of one’s individual sport to aid in the avoidance of injury or the quick recovery from one.

Trigger Point Work
Trigger points are hypersensitive, tightened areas, known as taut bands, which can occur in any muscle. Trigger points cause pain, tingling, burning, weakness and other symptoms. They have a special property called referred pain. This work was actually developed by Dr. Janet Travell-Orthopedist to President John F. Kennedy and has been an important component of our treatment plans.
